You may have noticed The Naked Editor’s tagline ‘writing with heart’. Instinctively I think we all know what that phrase is meant to convey, but what does it actually mean in a business context? How can decent, hardworking, money-making business people write with their heart? And why should they even want to?
To understand this, let’s first look at the notion of a heart-led business.
In my own marketing materials as The Naked Editor, I talk a lot about working with ‘heart-led entrepreneurs’ and ‘heart-centred businesses’. Some people describe them as social entrepreneurs or altruistic businesses. To me, these are the change-makers. The women and men who see an imbalance or injustice in the world and want to make a difference by striving to be the change they want to see.
Some of them have product-based businesses and are trying to do something to reduce waste or slow down climate change. Some of them are coaches focused on empowering women or helping people improve their physical health. Some of them are counsellors supporting those with mental health issues. Some of them are ecologists or wildlife conservationists.
You get the picture.
The thing that they all have in common is that they are passionate about their cause.
But what if you feel like you want to make a difference in some way but don’t actually have a cause to be passionate about? In my blog next week I’ll be talking all about how to find your purpose in the life and define your WHY.
One of the things that many heart-led entrepreneurs struggle with is how to promote their business and attract new clients and customers without feeling uncomfortable. No one likes an icky sales pitch.
The answer is to speak your truth and let your passion show through. Know exactly who you are talking to, and what you want to do. Write in a way that talks directly to those customers and clients in an authentic way. Show them that you understand the problems they face and how you can help them.
Be yourself.
Write with heart.
In my next few blog posts I’ll be telling you exactly how to do all of these things.
